The Pros:
High-Quality and colorful graphics, fun characters, great activities that reinforce important skills like making patterns, sorting into categories and putting together puzzles. This is a great way to learn more about minerals, fossils and dinosaurs through play.Zachy the Robot – Quest for Museum Treasures is a entertaining and educational way for your kids to learn more about fossils, dinosaurs and minerals as they travel the world with some fun robot friends.
One of the favorite pastimes in our house is treasure hunts. Anytime my kids start to get a little restless or can’t seem to agree on a game to play, I pull out the magic treasure hunt idea and BOOM! I have their full attention. Now, my kids can have a virtual treasure hunt anytime they want with Zachy the Robot. This is a wonderful app that takes your kids on treasure hunting adventures for fossils, minerals and dinosaurs for the new museum in town. Your kids will travel all around the globe in search of the items that are needed for the exhibits and complete a challenge in order to bring them back.
In the dinosaur hunting adventure, your kids can choose from one of nine dinosaur ecosystems around the world. When they arrive, they learn about that ecosystem; where it is located, which period the dinosaurs there were from and how old the fossils are. They then use their finger to drag a chisel across the screen and uncover the dinosaur bones buried beneath the dirt. Once the entire dinosaur skeleton is uncovered, the children must put it back together at the museum for the display. One feature that I thought was kind of fun, is that once the skeleton is re-assembled kids can use “Museum Vision” to see what the dinosaur would have looked like when it was alive. Each dinosaur found also comes with a list of “Fun Facts” about it to help educate your children about the species they found.
The fossil exhibit has 10 fossil sites to transport to and attempt to uncover the index fossil. Wondering what the “Index Fossil” is? Well thanks to this app I now know that the index fossil tells you how old the rocks are in that area! Again, the kids must use a chisel to uncover the fossils and complete a challenge. For this challenge, you must navigate a little robot through a maze while avoiding various moving obstacles that slow you down.
Finally, in the mineral exhibit children join “Doctor Miner” as they search the world to find all of the minerals on Dr. Miner’s list. The challenge for this exhibit involves completing patterns of minerals by choosing the correct mineral that comes next in the sequence. Children must not only choose the correct mineral, but they must place it on the drill and crank the handle to bring the mineral up to the position on the conveyor belt. Once you have completed the challenge, Dr. Miner also tells you where that mineral is used in our daily lives. For example, I learned that Bauxite can be processed to make aluminum which is in the world all around us!
Zachy the Robot – Quest for the Museum Treasures is an outstanding app. Visually, the graphics are high-quality and colorful and the characters are very cute and likeable. This app is a jackpot of information. I learned so much from playing this app and I am excited for my kids to play it and learn as well. The activities are fun and engaging. They really hold the attention of the child (or adult) and make learning about dinosaurs, minerals and fossils a whole lot of fun! This app is a great value. The knowledge your children will gain will far outweigh the $3.99 you pay to play. I look forward to more Zachy the Robot adventures and more treasure hunting with my kids!
