Animove Africa Review
I’m going out on a limb here and asking if any of you remember watching Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom when you were a kid? More of you have probably watched the updated version on Animal Planet, but if I was at my Grandparent’s house on a Sunday night that’s what was on TV (reruns of course). Marlin Perkins did get a little dry sometime, but I loved watching the animals in their native habitat that was so different from my Rocky Mountain home. Those episodes made me dream of going on safari someday, as long as I avoided any snake ridden locals.
I think most of us are fascinated by watching wild animals and I’m excited to share my review of Animove Africa with you. (You’ve probably noticed their spotlight on our home page.) It brings a personal view of the animal kingdom to your hand held device with video clips and a hide-and-seek game.
The video footage included in the app is amazing. Images are from the wonderful animal filmmaker Peter Lamberti and enable you to observe the African animals in their natural environment. I have to admit I gave a little gasp when the lion changed his mind about relaxing in the trees and charged the camera. It was just that cool. My screenshot is a bit blurry but he was really moving fast.
Footage for ten different animals are included and each one has multiple video clips. I know watching the gorillas beat their chests is going to be a favorite, especially the junior one. And the yawning hippo, my goodness that mouth is enormous. The close ups are so clear you can even count the crocodile’s teeth.
Kids will get a kick out of the simple Hide-and-seek game too. I found the baby zebra behind the tree by using my colossal finger strength to slide it out of the way.
Children and adults alike will be entertained as they select their favorite animals by scrolling through the home screen and then activate the clips with a simple tap of the screen. Animove Africa is the safari experience I can go on anytime, and it just like I wanted. No Snakes!
