The Anorak magazine isn’t one that I had heard of before I was introduced to this app. The magazine is described as the “Happy Mag for Kids” and this app as the “Happy App for Kids”. The color scheme will make you happy just looking at it. It’s bright and bold and very, very cheerful. The app has three parts – Read Stuff, Do Stuff and Play Stuff. The Read Stuff section has different articles and stories with illustrations from early issues of the magazine. All are very bright. “Do Stuff” lets you choose to color, draw, do a maze type activity or a word search where you try to spell “anorak”. “Play Stuff” features two games.  The Cycling game has you tilt your iPhone to make the a cyclist go. Your goal is to get him as far as you can before he falls off his bike. It’s harder than it sounds because there are hills to contend with and the cyclist gets going on his own and then crash! I enjoyed this silly game immensely. There’s also a game called Whack-Anorak where you’ve got to tap the blue Anoraks as they pop up on your screen.

The Anorak Magazine’s app will be updated with new stories and games within the next month and I’m betting they’ll be happy!

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
