It’s certainly no secret that one of my favorite, and certainly most used, apps is the Audible app for iPhone.    With over 100 titles in my Audible library, I have listened to more books than I have had time to read in the last five years. Having four children to care for has a way of eating into much of your free time!

I reviewed the Audible app back in December (see my original review here) as a great gift for the holidays.  I even gifted my brother The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins to introduce him to audio books and he was quickly hooked.  As much as I love browsing books in a bookstore, Audible makes it easy to find new books.  Very frequently they offer $4.95 sales on great selections…including first books in a series, which is how I ended up delving into the world of The Hunger Games. Having heard of the series, I decided that I was not interested because of the subject matter (having kids will do that to you!).  However, I love a good dystopian story and at $4.95 how could I resist?  I found myself listening at every possible moment and then waiting impatiently for a new monthly credit to be posted to my Audible account so I could download the remaining two books in the series.

Last week, I was so excited to see that Audible, inc. had released a brand new iPad app! This app, for iPad and iPad Mini, is gorgeous on the large screen and very intuitive to use.  iPad users will now be able to enjoy all the same features that Audible provides so well on the iPhone. One great feature is the ability to sync with Kindle books, taking you to the last read or heard page on your device.  Amazon even offers discounts on many books when you purchase both the Audible and the Kindle versions.

Audible also updated their iPhone app with a new look to match the look of the iPad app. In addition to changing the look and interface, the updated app lets you sign in with your existing Amazon account and allows you to download up to the first 50 MB of a book over cellular networks (about 2 – 3 hours’ worth of listening); the previous edition of the app only let you download sections wirelessly. While I have noticed a few small bugs in the upgrade (syncing between my iPad and iPhone could work better!), I have been assured that the developers are working on the issues and will issue a fix soon.  With the new look of the app, the iPad compatibility, and the ability to download over a cellular network, Audible 2.0 app is a great upgrade/addition to an already fantastic app!
