The iPhone Mom

Alright all of you mamas who have to be away from your kids – this app is pretty darn slick. Baby Connect allows you to see updates on your baby almost the moment they’re made. All you need is for you and your child’s caregiver to have access to the internet and/or the Baby Connect app.

Here’s how it works. You set up an account through either the app or www.baby-connect.com. Once you’re logged in you use the app to enter in updates on baby. Updates can be in the areas of food, drink, diapers, sleep, mood, activities and  temperature. I couldn’t believe how quick and easy it was to do updates. You just tap on the appropriate icon and then either enter your own description or choose one that’s already set up. Then tap the “Post” button. Right after you do this the update can be seen on the Baby Connect website. It shows up in an update list that’s similar to the news feed in Facebook.  You can also do this in reverse – enter in updates on the website and then view them on your iPhone. The app/website allows you to send messages, upload photos and display your location.  In the settings you can turn on push notifications so you’ll receive alerts about status updates when the app isn’t opened. You can choose which updates give you a notification.

This is an absolutely fantastic tool for learning what’s going on with your baby (or older kids) when you’re away. The trick will be working with your caregiver to get them to make updates throughout the day.  The nice thing is you don’t need an iPhone to make updates, you can do it using the internet. But having the iPhone app allows you to always know what’s going on. And it’s a quick process, something that’s key when you’re watching little ones. The “real time” feature is wonderful. If your child care situation is one where your caregiver is able to use the internet or an iPhone (or iPod Touch)to make frequent updates then I think this app is a must have for a mom’s peace of mind.
