Basic Math with Mathaliens

September 2, 2010

IMG_0145.jpgBasic Math with Mathaliens combines math skills practice into two games. First there is Mathaliens Bingo. Your child is given a math problem and they will need to solve it and then tap on a bingo square that contains the answer. The square will be marked by a Mathalien. Your child’s goal is to mark enough squares to earn a Bingo. Bingo can be customized so your child works with addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. There are also difficulty levels for each skill that correspond to the numbers used in the problems. The second game is called Hunting Mathaliens. In this game your child works through math problems, trying to move through five different levels. The levels increase in difficulty and the amount of time for answering a problem will decrease. This game can also be switched up between addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Once your child has conquered the fifth level they will have successfully captured a Mathalien. Captured Mathaliens can be played with in a gallery.

Mathaliens is a cute game and I always enjoy a math app involving something besides flashcards. I’ve been given a promo code for the iPhone version of Mathaliens. If you’ve got an elementary schooler and are interested in winning leave me a comment. Promo codes only valid in the US App Store.

Price when Reviewed: $.99 (iPhone version) or $1.99 (iPad)

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this app for review

I would love to win a promo code for this app for my son. He really needs practice in addition/subtraction and a game is the only way to get him to practice !!

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
