Bob Books #1 – Reading Magic

December 8, 2010

Bob Books #1- Reading Magic is the app adaptation of the highly successful series for early reader, the Bob books. Bob books use simple words and repetition to get children reading. We used them with our children when they were younger. The concepts and simplicity of the books have been successfully translated into app form. It features pages from the original books and brings them to life.

Each screen features a page from the original book with a simple sentence and illustration. As your child works through the pages they’ll be prompted to tap on the illustrations. The app will have them dragging and dropping letters to spell out words from the sentence . As they tap and move letters they’ll hear them sounded out and finally the word is read aloud. As words are spelled and read the illustrations will be changing from black and white to color. After the entire sentence has been completed the page comes to life with animation. There are twelve pages to the app and thirty-two words for your child to work with. Four different levels of difficulty will provide additional challenges.

Bob Books #1 – Reading Magic impressed with me it’s ability to stay true to the original books while making the app feel fresh and engaging. I’m looking forward and hoping to see an entire series of Bob Books.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
