I use this app too. I have the only place that I have problems is the grocery store where they don't have a handheld scanner. But it even worked at a gas station, where you scan your card for the discount. I love it. Oddly enough the only place that gave me any problems was my library, which uses those key chain tags. Why was it a problem to use my phone? I mean, how do you know I didn't take anyone else's library tag? Makes no sense to me, but then you should see some of my librarians...

Ok, I'm going to have to give this one a try again. If you've gotten it accepted at a fabric store then there's something to it! Maybe my negative experience before was due in part to just having the baby and being all around frazzled. :-) Thanks for your comment, I'll try CardStar again.

It works perfectly. I use it in two library systems, publix (they have to manually scan it), kroger (manual scan), dick's sporting goods, cvs, hancock fabric. No need for it to be especially clean - i wear sunscreen daily so there is always junk on my screen. Just swipe it with a sleeve or the bottom hem or your shirt or along your jeans before scanning. No special care required. Having said that, I don't use a screen protector (the screen doesn't scratch so I don't get why they're so common) but likely it would work through a screen protector.
