Cars 2 Storybook Deluxe

July 12, 2011

Have you seen the movie Cars 2 yet? We haven’t had a chance but it’s high on my kids summer to-do list. Until I work up the courage to take our two year old to the movie theater we’re making do with the Cars 2 Storybook Deluxe app. The storybook app is based on the movie and comes with fun extras built into the story. Children can read to themselves or listen to a narrated version that includes character voices. Illustrations are animated and readers can trigger more action on the screen by watching for special places to tap.

In addition to the story you’ll find five coloring pages scattered among the screens. Readers can tap a button to turn the illustration into a coloring page. The same is true for five other screens that can be turned into jigsaw puzzles. Along with the puzzles and coloring pages you’ll find two games, Mater’s Tire Toss and Tokyo Lights. The games were my six year old son’s favorite part of the app, especially the Tire Toss. A visual index is included in the app so readers can easily navigate to their favorite page or activity within the story.

Cars 2 Storybook Deluxe is a more expensive storybook app but the quality is top notch. The games could even be apps all on their own. If you have Cars fans in your home, especially Mater fans, then this is definitely an app to give a look over.

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
