Nintendo DSi vs. iPod Touch

Written by The iPhone Mom on September 24, 2009 – 9:00 am

Has Brian Tong been a fly on the wall in my house? Because this video sure is timely. We’ve got a little boy with a birthday coming up. He’s been reminding us for awhile that his sisters both have an iPod and a Nintendo DS and he has neither. Subtlety is not really a strong point at our house. We’ve decided to make it one big gift this year but we can’t decide which wish to fulfill.  Nintendo DSi, regular DS, Nano, iPod Touch?  Which brings me around to this video from Brian Tong where he pits the Nintendo DSi vs. the iPod Touch. Enjoy and please leave a comment to help – price difference aside which electronic device would you choose?

Top 5 Apps for Back to School

Written by The iPhone Mom on September 24, 2009 – 8:00 am

A reader tipped me off to this list – The Top 5 Apps for Back to School – featured on the Mobclix blog. I haven’t tried any of them as they seem geared towards older kids and mine are still  in Elementary School but I think the graphing calculator app sounds awesome. Anything to avoid buying one of those beasts. Have you seen the Staples ad where the kid spells out “Booger”? Every mom’s dream.

Click here to visit the Mobclix article. Thanks for the heads up Daisy!

Coupon Sherpa.com

Written by The iPhone Mom on September 16, 2009 – 9:00 am

It’s no secret that I love the Coupon Sherpa app. Well I got an email today giving me a heads up about www.couponsherpa.com. The developers have taken the idea behind their app and spun it into a website. They have been busy and let’s just say this website is now on my list of bookmarks. At the top.

If you are interested in coupons and saving money you must check out their website. It gives you information for online deals, mobile and printable coupons and grocery coupons. The site is easy to navigate and I love how everything is categorized and sorted. For example, when you’re looking at the online coupons you can view them by store, category, expiring soon, most recent and those with free shipping.  The grocery coupons section gives you the top printable grocery coupons – for the last 24 hours, seven days or all-time. That’s just some of what they’ve done. They’ve also added a “digg-like” feature where visitors can vote on which coupons are the best bets. You can tweet the coupons from the site and also leave comments. There’s also a coupon newsletter that will come to your inbox every week.

Luke and Jesse Knowles are the founders of Coupon Sherpa and I’d like to give them a public “WOW!!” I’m completely impressed. They are also behind two other sites: www.mrfreestuff.com – where you can find free samples and products – and www.mrssweepstakes.com  – where you can find online contests.

But enough talk – go visit www.couponsherpa.com and spread the word!

Getting a Refund for an iPhone App

Written by The iPhone Mom on July 30, 2009 – 6:00 am

This story from the iPhone Download Blog cam through on my Twitter feed. It was news to me that you could get a refund for an iPhone app. After reading the story I read the comments and found it interesting how the refund policy affects the app developers. If the comments are an accurate depiction of how it works and a developer was willing to offer a refund themselves, I think I’d rather go through them so they could keep that 30%.

Exciting News & a $25 Giveaway

Written by The iPhone Mom on July 26, 2009 – 11:00 pm

The folks at Kijiji recently asked a group of mom bloggers to submit their favorite apps for a “Top Ten Family-Friendly iPhone Apps” list. Guess who was in that group? Yep, the iPhone Mom herself! Click HERE to see the entire top ten list.

Now here’s the great news for my readers. To go along with the Top Ten list Kijiji is giving me a $25 iTunes card to use in a giveaway.  Yes, you read that correctly – a $25 iTunes card is going to one of you. Think of how many $.99 apps you could get with that! Or is there a pricey app you’ve had your eye on for awhile? This could be your chance.

Here’s how it’s going to work. Submit a comment telling us your favorite family app for one entry into the contest. For a second entry visit www.kijiji.com and check out their classifieds. Then come back and leave another comment telling me you did it. The contest will close next Monday, August 3rd, at 10:00 pm MST and a winning comment will be chosen.

Thank you to Kijiji for the generous giveaway. Be sure to read my review of their new iPhone app. Here’s a preview – I liked it. Happy Commenting and Good Luck!

Written by The iPhone Mom on July 21, 2009 – 3:00 am

Looks like there’s a possibility of the iPod Touch getting camera and microphone capability. Put that together with Skype and you’ve basically got yourself a phone. Read about that HERE. Yet another reason to ditch the land line.

I’m a bit of a Twitter novice, but I’m learning, slowly. I use Tweet Deck on my PC and my iPhone and thought this article from cnet did a nice job explaining about the Tweet Deck app.

iPhone OS 3.0

Written by The iPhone Mom on June 17, 2009 – 9:35 am

The new iPhone OS 3.0 comes out today so be sure and update your phones! There are a ton of nifty new features that are definitely going to improve my iPhone experience.

The features I’m most excited about are:

*Emailing up to 5 photos at a time.

*Shaking the phone to undo/redo typing – so much better than tapping that delete button over and over.

*Shaking the iPhone to shuffle music.

*A landscape keyboard for email and texting – awsome for my chubby, clumsy pregnant fingers.

*More details on the call history log.

*Voice Memos!!! Hooray.

*Last, but not least, parental controls for apps, movies, You Tube, Safari and more. Since my iPhone is shared amongst my kiddos I’m really looking forward to this feature.

Click here to read an article that explains how to use the 40 best features in he new OS 3.0.

New iPhone Features

Written by The iPhone Mom on June 11, 2009 – 9:15 pm

So the new iPhone 3G S has been all over the internet this week. I think the speed of it along with the ability to shoot and edit video on your iPhone is pretty slick but this- cnet.com describes new iPhone fingerprint resistant coating just might be the one feature that convinces me to upgrade.  If you saw my screen and all the lovely little people fingerprints that cover it you’d understand why this feature sounds awesome.
