I was recently contacted about the new ChatTime mobile app and given the fact that many people will be talking with loved ones over the holidays I thought this would be a timely post. ChatTime is a leading iPhone app for international calls and they are now offering free calls between users. Unlike VOIP (voice over IP) applications like Skype, ChatTime uses the voice network just like your cellphone. You aren’t limited to using Wi-Fi or being on the 3G network either. The calls are free when you connect with another ChatTime user. Here are some quotes from the App Store description.
WHY IS CHATTIME USED BY 99% OF THE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD?
- No Wi-Fi: call to any phone from anywhere
- Crystal clear call quality
- It’s so easy
- Call your existing iPhone contacts
- Awesome customer support within 24 hours
- Rates to call any phone are like Skype but no connection fee
- Buy credit with your iTunes account
- Works in countries where VoIP is blocked
FREE CALLS BETWEEN CHATTIME USERS IN THESE COUNTRIES:
- USA and Canada
- Europe: all 27 EU (European Union) countries, Croatia, Georgia, Norway, Switzerland
- Asia Pacific: Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam
- Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico
- Africa & the Middle East: Bahrain, Israel, South Africa
DOES IT USE LOCAL MINUTES?
In many cases it does, with the benefit of great quality and freedom (no Wi-Fi or 3G). ChatTime converts your international call into a local call or even an incoming call and uses the mobile voice network just like local calls. For free calls, ChatTime turns 2 local calls into a FREE international call. The process is fast and completely seamless.
Additional app details can be found in iTunes. If anyone has had a chance to try out the ChatTime Mobile App please leave a comment letting us know what you think!

You have to be very careful when using chat time. I registered to an unlimitted world calling plan to call a land line to Mexico. The cost is 14.99 $ The time frame was from April 10,2012 to May 11,2012
It supossed to be unlimitted however on May 4, I was ubable to make any more phone calls an recieved, every time I tried to place a call after May 4 a window would appear indicating that I had no funds or credits to place that phone call. I had 3.43 $ credit remaining In my chat time account and my calling plan period is not due until May 11,2012
Because I needed to call to the usual land line in Tijuana Mexico, I sent a message to costumer care in chat time requesting from them to reinstate my active unlimitted calling plan, I requested the same plea on several occations, however all my request were ignored . So on Saturday morning May 5, 2012, I purchased 24.99 $ more talk credits from chat time. Right after purchasing that amount a window from I tunes appeared stating that my purchase had not gone through and asked me if I still wanted to summit the 24.99$ purchase and I selected yes.
When I went to chat time main window I showed that I was charged twice the amount, a total of 50.00$
So Immediately I went to chat time support option, then contacted costumer care and sent numerous messages stating in order every thing that had transpired and requested to be reinstated in my still active unlimitted world plan, to be reinbursed my overcharged amount of 24.99 plus the 3.43 $ I had on my credit. I requested these on numerous occation to costumer care, however I have been ignored every time, on top of it, I have been charged 4.90 $ from the 50.00 $ I was charged yeaterday despite been covered under my active unlimitted calling pland which is not due until May 11,2012 and today is Sunday, May 6, 2012
So I have been overcharged twice 24.99$ and have been charged 7.50$ while been covered by un unlimitted world calling plan. All these illigal fraudulent actions and omissions By chat time are using I Tunes to charge these fraudule illigal fees and chat time blalantly has been disregarding my numerous attempts to make them aware of their Scheme.

Thank you for letting us know about your experience. I haven’t used the app myself so I appreciate hearing from people who have actually used it. It doesn’t sound like you’ve had the best of luck with it, to put it mildly. Have you gotten any help from Apple?~Heather
