I’ve been trying out a website that is designed to help moms keep life and communication organized and efficient. The website is www.cmomgo.com and it’s a free service. When you sign up you’re given an account and the ability to create “circles”. Circles are groups of people that you need to communicate and coordinate with. For example, a soccer team circle, a PTO group circle, that type of thing. Creating a circle is very easy, you’ll need to enter in the email addresses of those you’d like to include and then wait for them to accept. You can keep the circle closed, meaning only you can invite people to join, or you can make it open so all group members can invite others. Once you have your circle you can send messages back and forth, create calendar activities and share photos. When you are sending messages you can make them group wide or send them out to individuals only. The same is true for calendar activities. Circle members will also have the option of replying whether or not they plan on attending activities. The website experience is smooth and very easy to use. They’ve done a great job making the service simple yet effective.
I appreciate the concept of CmomGo. Last year I served as PTO Co-President and this would have been an immensely helpful tool. Instead of filtering through emails and reading everyone’s different replies we could have all worked through this service. The calendaring option would also have been a help as we tried to coordinate meetings with each other. My husband coaches baseball and I can see this as a useful way to publish the snack schedule and coordinate the end of season party along with other details. My big question with the CmomGo service was do you have to join in order to see the circle’s messages and activities. For example, let’s say you invite someone to join a group but they don’t do it. Are they left out of the loop? No. CmomGo will continue to send them messages that you create for the groups and they can join the circle at any time.
CmomGo now has an iPhone app. The app costs $1.99 and allows you to access your CmomGo account while you’re literally on the go. You can send messages, add activities and gallery photos from your iPhone. You’re also able to create circles. The app is streamlined and very easy to use. For me, having the app is the key part of making the service working for me. If I’m limited to only using the website I’m less likely to check in as often as I should. If everything is available on my phone I feel connected and much more efficient.
*Through January 1st, 2011 CmomGo is donating 50% of their revenue from the app to a charity dedicated to fighting child hunger in the United States.
