123 Color HD Update

September 20, 2010

123 Color  HD recently had a HUGE update and the app is now better than ever. Which is saying a lot because I thought it was pretty near perfect before. Here’s a rundown on my favorite new features. To see the entire list you’ll want to read the App Store description.

*Perfect Paint – Perfect Paint lets your child use their fingers to paint in a picture but they will never go out of the lines. It’s a terrific feature because it combines the fun of freeform painting with the success of coloring everything in. It’s not a paint bucket type feature, you don’t tap a section to fill it in completely. You actually paint but when you get to that line the paint magically stops.

*Stickers & Frames- Stickers and frames can be added to some of the coloring pictures. They are big, bold and very kid friendly.

*Lined and graph paper has been included in the app and you can create original drawings with these.

*The numbers, letters and color palette that sit at the bottom of the screen have increased in size. It’s now easier to see and use them.

*When you tap on a color the app will announce it’s name. Now your child can learn letters, numbers and colors in one single app.

*Photo Painting – In Photo Painting your child can decorate a photograph by painting on it or adding stickers and frames. The app includes some fun photographs or you can easily add one of your own from the photo library. This was one of our favorite new features.

*Additional Coloring Books – You can make an in-app purchase from more than 80 new coloring pages. They are sold as books and several are bundled together at a discount. I was thrilled to see a letter and number writing set. My son is now an official Kindergartener and he can use this to practice his handwriting. If you are buying coloring books individually you’re able to try one picture from the book for free to see if you like what you’re going to get. That is terrific.

*There is a ton of customization built into 123 Color  HD. You can change everything from the language, background music, size of your paint brush and more. It’s this type of detail that makes Steve Glinberg’s apps some of very favorites.

My advice is if you have an iPad and a preschooler and you don’t own 123 Color HD already then you must grab this app. It’s currently on sale at $1.99 which is a steal but it’s definitely worth the purchase at full price. If you already own the app then update to the new version today and tell your friends. This one is a must have for the iPad.

Price when Reviewed: $1.99 (Sale Price for a limited time)

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
