Color My Name

December 8, 2010

Color My Name takes simple coloring pages and jazzes them up with your child’s name. You begin by typing in the name and the app creates twenty-one coloring pages that include your child’s name in letters that can also be colored. To color the picture your little one simply taps the color and then taps the section of the picture they want to fill in. Pictures can be shared via email or printed out. Printing out a coloring page before it’s been colored gives you a black and white coloring page for your child.

I like the personalized coloring pictures and Color My Name’s simple drawings are perfect for little fingers. I have just a couple suggestions for the app. The first is to add an undo button, I couldn’t find one. You can choose the color white and then fill in over your last color but an undo button would save some time. Secondly, when I hold the iPhone horizontally and pull up the color choices they cover up the bottom section of my picture. My last suggestion is to create personalized coloring pages that are gender specific. I actually emailed the developers about that because I wanted to see what they had planned. They told me that this idea is already in development and they’re also working on customizing pictures based on themes. I liked that answer!

I like the charm of Color My Name and I look forward to seeing the addition of more coloring pages and customization.

My girls love this app. They love colouring in on screen but also printing out pages and making their own colouring book. Friends have bought it as well and it has been a hit with their kids too.

What do you think???

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
