Create a Car

September 30, 2010

My son thinks the Create a Car app is an absolute kick in the pants. The app lets him create custom cars and then write up descriptions about each one. The cars are stored in his virtual garage and he can tinker with them whenever he wants. The car creation begins when he chooses a vehicle body. Choices include a truck, van, sports car and more. After that it’s time to trick out the car. Vehicle parts are broken down into different categories. There are wheels and things, engines and power, sky and water, power tools and fun stuff. Each category has a variety of items that can be added to the cars. The different parts appear on the screen below the vehicle. To assemble a car you choose a part and drag it onto the screen, positioning it where you’d like it to go. Parts can be resized, rotated and flipped. You can add as many or as few as you’d like. Once you have the vehicle exactly right you can save it to your garage. Up to five players can have separate garages in the app for their cars. There is also a guest player option where you can create a car but not save it.

When you are in the garage you can view your saved vehicles. A “key” button allows you to start your vehicle and watch all of the different parts come to life. An information screen is available and this is where you may name your vehicle, add a description and track the car’s special features. It’s like a trading card for your car. If you want to share your creation you can email out a picture. If you’d like to make some changes and improvements you can bring your car back to the work area and change things up a bit.

Create a Car looks fantastic in HD on our iPad. The graphics and sound effects are fun and the app runs smoothly and without problems. I like all of the whimsical vehicle parts that are available and so does my son. When he uses the app he tells me he’s making his own Hot Wheels. Hot Wheels that aren’t lying on the floor, waiting for me to step on them? I can live with that!

Create a Car is a universal app and will work on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. I tested it out on my iPad.

I’ve been given 8 promo codes to give away. Have a child who’d love this app? Leave me a comment. Promo codes only valid in the US App Store.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
