The iPhone Mom

I’ve always enjoyed reading Curious George stories but when I began reading them to my son I really fell in love with that naughty monkey. There’s just something about him that strikes a cord with me since  I’m the mother of my own curious fellow. George is always getting into trouble but he just wants to help and in the end it’s always okay. Iceberg Reader Kids has brought Curious George to the iPhone in several storybook style apps. The one that we tried out is Curious George Makes Pancakes. This book is a favorite at our house, one that has been read many times.

If you look at all the apps Iceberg Reader Kids has put out you’ll see they really know what they’re doing. This Curious George app is well put together and has all the features that make a great story book app. You can listen to the story as it is read aloud. While you’re reading  you can zoom in and out and pan around the illustrations. If you like a particular page (for me it’s when George finds himself in the dunk tank covered in syrup and napkins) you can add a bookmark. There is an index feature that allows you to scroll through the illustrations and pick a page to read. It’s like a visual table of contents for a picture book. The app also allows you to record yourself reading the story and it’s a very easy process.  In the settings you can adjust the volume, turn on/off the auto read and change the size of the story’s text.  This app version of Curious George Makes Pancakes is extremely well done, easy to navigate and it’s got my kids favorite feature in a storybook app – the ability to record themselves.

Iceberg Reader Kids has several Curious George stories available, including Merry Christmas Curious George, a great holiday tale. I could definitely use some of George’s help wrapping presents this year. Other holiday titles include The Polar Express, The Night Before Christmas, and When Santa Turned Green. Other Curious George titles include Curious George and the Puppies, Curious George at the Aquarium, Curious George and the Dump Truck, and Curious George and the Birthday Surprise. They also have a few Veggie Tales stories, some from the Mr. Men series and another of my favorite, The Poky Little Puppy.
