Another female oriented app review…male readers beware.
One more app that helps you track your menstrual cycles, but only using a calendar format. The first time you start Cycles it asks you to enter your cycle length, luteal phase and also set up a privacy code (password). You’ll then see a calendar that shows you the current month. Double tap on the date you are having your period and you get a screen asking for more information. Click next to “period” and you get to choose exactly how heavy or light your period was. There’s also a more personal entry that deals with fertility planning. Save your information and then you go back to the calendar. Make sure you double click on each date you are having your period and record your information. After you do that the calendar will also give you an estimated fertility window. Touch the arrow at the top of the calendar and it takes you backwards and forwards by months, showing you the anticipated dates of your cycles. This would be helpful with planning.
Touch the “Help” button and you get detailed information about how to use the app. It goes into everything from what the colors on the calendar mean to what to you should be recording for your periods. The “Tips” button takes you to the website www.fertilityfriend.com for even more information about fertility.
The “Terms” button takes you to a terms of agreement screen. You’ll want to read through it and then click agree or disagree. Because of some of the wording in the terms I’m not posting any screen shots of Cycles. There’s one you can see on the iTunes store.
For a free app this isn’t bad. I like that it lets you get specific with how heavy or light your period was. The calendar isn’t my favorite one but it does the job. I could also do without the pink flowers all over the app. I’d like an app that tracks girly things but doesn’t look really girly.
