EMS Alert

June 1, 2009

EMS Alert is an app that you hope to never have to use after you initially set it up, but if you do need it you’ll be very glad it’s on your iPhone. It allows you to enter in the personal information that would be needed in an emergency. This is not a complete list but some of this information includes:

-Your name, date of birth, height, weight and blood type.

-Current medical problems, medications and allergies.

-Medical devices you use.

-Past medical problems or surgeries that you’ve undergone.

-Emergency contacts including a main contact, physician, next of kin, Healthcare Power of Attorney or your Attorney for a DNR

-Notes of any wishes you might have in the case of a medical emergency and your preferred hospital.

EMS Alert also has a feature that allows you to call 911 directly from the app. I didn’t try this feature out (for obvious reasons) but there is an alert function that sounds an audible alert every two minutes after you have dialed 911. If you have to dial 911 and are unable to let the emergency personnel know where you are they can follow the alert sound. Also, if you tap the “Set Up” button you can create new wallpaper for your phone that shows emergency contact information. This is helpful if you’ve got a passcode on your iPhone. If you were in an emergency someone could look at your phone and get the immediate contact info. without having to figure out your secret code to unlock your phone.

EMS Alert was designed by an EMS director with many years of experience and it shows in the thoroughness of the app. It’s very easy to update with information and should you find yourself in an emergency it’d be the best $.99 you’d ever spent.

Price when Reviewed: $.99

WebMD Baby

WebMD Baby was released earlier this month and it is awesome! Seriously one of the best “baby” apps I’ve seen to date

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
