Etsy Lovers

April 6, 2011

Etsy Lovers has cost me plenty of lost time this week – time that I lost as I was sucked into browsing through wonderful Etsy listings. I sat down to test the app out and an hour later I pulled myself away. Then today I got back on to double check something for this review and there went another half hour. If you have a weakness for unique, handcrafted items then beware! This app is going to make it all too easy for you to lose track of time and find yourself addicted to browsing through the Etsy offerings.

Last fall Etsy had a contest to find the best apps developed with their API (application program interface). Etsy Lovers won the Grand Prize in that contest and after using it this week I can understand why. Etsy doesn’t have an official app but this feels pretty darn close. The color scheme, design elements and overall feel are right in line with what you experience on the website.

Etsy Lovers provides a way to easily browse through all that Etsy has to offer. You can see featured items, visit a seller’s shop or search for something by key word. Select sellers will even be offering special discounts to the app’s users. Etsy Lovers connects with your Etsy account and you can login and save your favorite listings. If you mark an item or shop as a favorite in the app then it will also show up online as a favorite. This is a great way to come back to an item later on if you move over to your computer. Items can also be emailed or shared via Facebook and Twitter. The last thing I’d like to mention is that you can use the app to create galleries while you browse. These galleries can then be shared with others, giving them an idea of what you like. It’s a terrific way to send some “subtle” hints for Mother’s Day.

I have to say that browsing with Etsy Lovers appealed to me much more than sitting at my computer looking over the website. It felt streamlined and focused, the information was right there, the photographs were easy to see and I had no trouble navigating back and forth through my searches. When I found what I was looking for (Surprise! I wasn’t just searching aimlessly the entire time!) I was able to go directly to the Etsy website from the app and complete my purchase.

If you are an Etsy shopper then I highly recommend the Etsy Lovers app. As for me, from now on I’ll be bypassing the website all together and going here first.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
