If you’ve read my review of Flixter then you’ve already read almost everything I’m going to say about the Fandango app. I opened it up and could have sworn I was looking at the same app. It operates along the same lines giving you a list of movies that are showing in theaters near you. You can also see what’s coming soon to your local theater. Touch a movie and you’ll get a plot summary, a fan rating and showtimes. You can also watch previews for the movies. The theaters button takes you to a list of theaters near your iPhone’s location. You can view the location, phone number and showtimes for that theater. You can also mark theaters as favorites. These will also show up on another list so you can eliminate theaters you never go to. The feature that makes Fandango different is the ability to purchase tickets through the app. I didn’t try this out but it looked fairly straightforward.
I have to say I was a little disappointed in this app. The current movie list looked good but there wasn’t much on the coming soon screen. Unlike Flixter there’s no way to view DVDs. I think the only reason I’d use this over Flixter would be to purchase my tickets. Having it on the iPhone would be useful if I was out and about and needed to get tickets right away. Otherwise I think I’ll stick with using the Fandango website.
