Yesterday Farm Animals: Story and Games replaced Elmo’s Monster Maker as my toddler’s most requested app on the iPad. It’s a cute story, simple in both it’s text and illustrations but it definitely caught her interest. We went through the narrated version several times and she got a big kick out of the animal sounds. Farm Animals has simple interactions and animations which makes it just right for toddlers.
After the story there is a game plus several puzzles to play around with. The game asks your child to match a sound to the animal that makes it. It’s an effective way for them to learn the animal names and sounds. The puzzles show animals from the story and they are made of chunky pieces for little fingers.
I thought Farm Animals was a well done and cute app. Miss J and I both enjoyed it and I can see her going back to it again and again. Best part, it’s not so cutesy cute that it’s going to drive me nuts listening to it over and over again. There was one thing that I did think just a little odd – the “pages” turn opposite of how they would turn in a book. It doesn’t take away from the app’s appeal, I just found it a little off but Miss J couldn’t have cared less.
