Five Little Monkeys Wash the Car

April 18, 2011

Five Little Monkeys Wash the Car is now out in the App Store, thank you Oceanhouse Media and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt! This is my favorite book from Eileen Christelow’s Five Little Monkeys series and it looks fabulous in app form. The story follows the monkeys as they try to help their Mama sell the old family car. The monkeys decide it needs some fixing up with a good wash, paint and plenty of perfume. They run into trouble when the sneaky crocodiles get involved and for awhile it looks like the monkeys may have found themselves in a real scrape. But one little monkey knows exactly how to outsmart the crocodiles and everyone makes it home safe and sound. The monkeys even manage to sell the car along the way! I love the part in the story when Mama finds out what they’ve been doing while she’s been home napping. I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to ever close my eyes if I was the monkeys’ mama.

Five Little Monkeys Wash the Car has all of Oceanhouse Media’s trademark features. The pages pan and zoom so you’ll be able to enjoy all of the original illustrations from the picture book. Tapping on objects in the illustration will cause words to zoom out on the screen, reinforcing vocabulary. The story can be read silently or enjoyed in “Read to Me” or “Auto Play” modes. The app uses narration and a peppy musical background with sound effects.

This is a universal app so it’s designed to look great on any of your iDevices. I’ve never been disappointed in an Oceanhouse Media app, they do a fabulous job transforming beloved picture books. Please keep the monkeys coming!!

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
