Far to the North - Far to the North was written & illustrated by Gina Ricci and is offered by PicPocket Books. It tells of a young polar bear learning about his home in the Arctic. He learns to swim, fish and play with the other Polar Bears, all under the starry sky of the North. PicPocket Books have animated features, narration, highlighted text and easy to turn pages. Far to the North is available as an iPhone/iPod Touch app and as a HD version for the iPad. Price: $1.99 for iPhone and $2.99 for HD iPad ~ See Far to the North and Far to the North HD in the App Store.
BoboAlert - BoboAlert provides instant access to your child’s basic medical data. This data can include blood type, medications, allergies, contact numbers for doctors, specialists, family members and more. A first aid guide includes tips for dealing with emergency situations. There are two parts to BoboAlert – an account at BoboAlert.com and a free app. The account costs $1.99 a month and this is where you will enter in your children’s information. The app is free and you use it to login to the BoboAlert.com account, giving you the information on the go. There is no limit to logins for your account so it can be shared with family members, baby sitters, etc. all for the $1.99 a month price. BoboAlert is available in English, German and Polish. Price: $1.99 for web account & Free for the app ~ See BoboAlert on the web and in the App Store.
1TapAlarm+ - 1TapAlarm says it’s “the fastest and simplest way to setup a reminder notification for an upcoming event on your iPhone.” I’ve not tried out this application yet so I can’t vouch for the claims. You’ll have your choice of notification sounds and the ability to record vocal notes. 1TapAlarm is available in a free version and in a “+” version without ads. The customer reviews in iTunes for the free version are very favorable. If anyone has tried this one out let us know what you think. Price: $1.99 of Free (with ads) ~ See 1TapAlarm+ in the App Store
Animals 100 - This iPad app showcases 100 different animals, with five pictures per animal making over 600 HD pictures. In addition to the animal pictures your child will also be able to listen to their sounds and read more information about how they live. The app also includes a game, quiz, puzzle and an alphabet activity that involves the animals. The app is available in several languages, including English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. If you’d like to try out a sampling of what Animals 100 has to offer then you might consider the Lite version, it features 20 animals. Price: $2.99 for Animals 100 & Free for Animals 100 Lite ~ See Animals 100 in the App Store.
Weather Window - I really like the sound of Weather Window. It’s a weather app but instead of showing you happy sunshines and frowning clouds to represent the weather it lets you link weather conditions to your own video clips. You can add summer clips for summery weather, video of your children sledding for snowy conditions, etc. Once you’ve done that the app displays the temperature information and shows your video clip, in a “window”. So as you’re looking at your iPhone it appears that you are looking out a window at the weather outside. Clever and only $.99. Price: $.99 ~ See Weather Window in the App Store.
