Frienatic

April 5, 2011

Frienatic bills itself as “a fresh way to view your Facebook friends, status updates, news feeds and more.” I’ll agree with that claim, this iPad app gives your Facebook feed an entirely new look and it makes browsing through your news feed visually appealing. At the time I’m writing this review there are things that I both like and dislike about.

*What I Like About Frienatic -

  • The graphic layout of status updates – Updates from friends are presented on “tiles” and you can touch their tile to see this friend’s update and latest pictures. You can also post a comment or like their update.
  • The graphic layout of my News Feed -The information that normally shows up in a list on my wall is all here on tiles. This can include photos, videos, and links from my friends and pages that I follow. I can tap on a tile to see more information about the things that have been posted on my wall.
  • Friend Favs – This is a random selection of different pages that my friends “like”. It’s a fun way to see what everyone is interested in.
  • When I view my Friend List my friends show up as tiles that include their profile picture and name. I can tap on their tile and see their information, photos and recent wall activity. Photographs look sharp on the iPad screen. I can also post directly to a friend’s wall from their screen.

*What I Wasn’t So Keen On -

  • Frienatic lets me post a photo or status update but I can’t see my own Wall. To me this is a big feature that’s missing from the app. Until that’s available Frienatic is a terrific reader but it won’t completely replace my use of the Facebook app.
  • I’d like to see a way to navigate from a friend’s update on the Update or News Feed section to their Friends screen. Right now it’s just not working for me and in order to see their other information I’ve got to back out and find them on the Friend List. It would be nice if everything worked together.
  • A Slideshow feature should take random images from my friend’s Facebook accounts and turn them into a slideshow but this feature hasn’t been loading for me.

From what I’ve read in iTunes Frienatic is evolving and the developers are committed to adding new features as the app grows. I’m impressed with the app and what it can do so far and I plan on watching for updates in case my dislikes are addressed in future versions.

*If you’d like to get a feel for Frienatic before you pay for the app you can try out the free version. It will limit you to one page of status updates and news feed posts and you might also have advertisements on your pages. You can see the free version here.

I’ll have to keep an eye on this! So far the tee Friendly app is working for me, but this looks like a cute alternative, esp if they fix the cons you mentioned!

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
