Geometry 4 Kids was developed for children ages 5-10 and it covers a wide range of geometry topics. The topics are each presented in a learning section followed by a practice section. The topics progress from simplest, those best suited from younger children, to more complex. These sections are followed by riddle and critical thinking activities. The topics covered in the app include the following:
- 2D shapes – Ages (3-6)
- 3D Shapes – Ages (5-8)
- Faces and Sides – Ages (6-9)
- Corners and Square Corners – Ages (6-9)
- Symmetry – Ages (3-8)
- Line Segments, Rays, & Angles – Ages (7-10)
- Polygons & Triangles – Ages (7-10)
- Congruence, & Transformations – Ages (8-10)
- Who Am I – Riddles. – Ages (5-10)
- Critical Thinking – Ages (5-10)
The learning sections are presented with graphics and verbal instructions that explain the concepts. After children have gone through these screens they can move on to the practice. The practice section will quiz them on what they have learned, asking them questions about the concepts. I do wish there was a bit more interactivity in the practice sections. For example, children might be shown a square and asked a question like “This shape has four right angles, what is it?” Instead of having answers on the screen to choose from they must move on to the next screen to hear the answer. I know that my children always learn better when they’re interacting with the educational app. That being said the app is very thorough and does a fine job covering all of these geometry topics.
