How many of you upgraded to the new iPhone 4S today? Or maybe you’re like me and you missed the shipping deadline but it will be coming in the next week? When we upgrade our phones our kids inherit the old phone and get an “iPod Touch” but there are many people that sell their old phones. Enter Glyde.com. I hadn’t heard of this website until a few weeks ago. It was started by the founder of eBay Motors and it is an online marketplace for selling and buying “media and select consumer electronics”. Just recently the marketplace was expanded to include iPhones. So those of you looking to sell your old iPhone and recoup some of the cost of the 4S have a resource here.

I haven’t had a chance to try Glyde out for myself but the process looks simple. You list your item for sale with no upfront fees. When your item sells you’ll pay 12% of the first $100 and 8% on the remaining amount. You’ll also pay for a pre-stamped, pre-adressed envelope that Glyde sends you when your item sells. I love the idea of the envelope. Part of what I never liked about selling on eBay was dealing with envelopes and postage. Once you have your envelope you mail off your item and when the buyer receives it Glyde deposits the money in your account.

Buying items appears to be just as easy. Browse through the listings and find what you’re looking for, then you purchase the item and wait for it’s arrival. At that point you have 48 hours to return the item and you can always resell it. I was reassured by Glyde’s transaction policies. They’re not going to leave buyers high and dry.

The Glyde website is clean and well organized. You can definitely tell that the creators know what they’re doing here. In addition to iPhones you’re going to find other Apple devices (iPods, iPads), books, DVDs, games, tablets and more listed on the site. I also found a buying section called the “Charities Store”. This was a wonderful surprise. Here people have pledged their items for charity. They list the items for sale and then the proceeds from that sale go to a non-profit charity. Currently the store is supporting the American Red Cross and Reading is Fundamental among several other charities.

Be sure to bookmark Glyde.com if you’re looking to buy or sell online. I have because the streamlined approach and ease of use appeals to me and answers some of the frustration I have with other similar websites.

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
