Grocery Zen, Grocery Gadget & Shopper

December 9, 2009

I bought Grocery Zen, Grocery Gadget and Shopper earlier this year. I’ve reviewed them in the past and liked them at the time but to be honest, I don’t use them as much as I should. None of them are exactly what I need in a shopping app so I find myself coming back to my paper lists.

Out of the three apps that I’ve tried, Shopper was my favorite and the one I usually go back to. The key thing I liked about it was it’s look and feel. But now they’ve included ads within the app which really doesn’t bother me, but the lists don’t look as clean as they used to. They’ve also integrated store flyers and the ability to sync your list with another iPhone. All nice features. My next favorite out of my three grocery apps was Grocery Gadget because it has a website where you can create your shopping lists and then sync them to your phone. It also has some very nice features but after using these apps for awhile I’ve decided I’m going to continue trying more out. I want one that combines the best features from Gadget and Shopper. I’d take Grocery Gadget’s online syncing and list sharing with Shopper’s friendly user interface. I’d love for the app to lets me scan in the prices at the store so I can easily keep a running total and budget. I also need some sort of coupon integration so I can keep track of what items I have coupons for.

I’ve done some quick browsing through the iTunes store and have found a couple new apps that I’d like to try. Once I get through Christmas and realize I need to watch my budget again I’ll get motivated to organize my shopping. It’s a yearly ritual I go through.  The next apps I plan on trying are Grocery IQ and Listomni Lists. The iTunes description of Grocery IQ says they’ll soon have the ability to sync shopping lists with multiple users, scan barcodes with the iPhone camera (Hooray!) and there’ll be additional coupon features. Those are all things I’ve been searching for. And one read through of the features in Listomni has been convinced it has the potential to replace my own brain.

Here are my previous thoughts on: Shopper, Grocery Gadget & Grocery Zen. Looking back each of these apps was an “I Love It!”, which I did at the time. Now I’m thinking “I Like It…but…” might be more appropriate.

How about you? Have you found the prefect grocery shopping app?

I use and really love Grocery IQ. I’m excited for their new features. It really helps me keep track of what I need to pick up because often I remember things on the commuter train or at work. Curious to see how you like it when you test it.

The screen shots look fantastic – that barcode feature is something I really want to try out. I think I’ve got to grab this one asap.

Grocery IQ- I like the interface but I find that you cannot manage lists on the Web site ( and sync them to your device ) a big minus.

Also, it appears that the only way to edit an item that you have purchased in the past is to add it to the list, then edit it. This marks it as an item that you need to buy, even if you just want to edit it but don’t need to buy it at that time. Very confusing.

Grocery Gadget – Their interface is way too busy, IQ wins here. Also, they should go to store-based lists and separate the item from its list. What I mean is if you say I need item A that is available at Store 1, 2, and 3, it appears on all 3 store lists. Once you buy it, it disappears from all 3 lists because you do not need it anymore..you have IT!

Proximity sensors can have a high reliability and long functional life because of the absence of mechanical parts and lack of physical contact between sensor and the sensed object.接近开关.

What do you think???

WebMD Baby

WebMD Baby was released earlier this month and it is awesome! Seriously one of the best “baby” apps I’ve seen to date

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
