Gypsy Kittie Friends Photo Share

Gypsy Kittie Friends seems like the perfect app for tweenish aged girls. It allows you to take pictures of you and your friends and then dress up the photos with cute animals and accessories. Since I’m pretty sure the app wasn’t designed for thirty-something year old moms and I have both a seven year old and a ten year old daughter I figured they’d be better judges of the app than I. I handed over my phone, asked them to give it a try and here are their thoughts.

Miss S (7 yr. old) – She had no trouble figuring the app out and spent quite a bit of time putting together the perfect photo. She experimented with photos in my camera roll and also took some with the iPhone using the app. She told me that it was fun but she didn’t like all of the animals. She also corrected me when I was referring to the “accessories” in the app. They should be called “flare” she told me so  I stand corrected. I asked her what people should do with  the pictures they make in Gypsy Kitty. She told me they should save them, email them to people and put them on their blogs.

Miss E (10 yr. old) – Also had no trouble figuring the app out without any help from me. She enjoyed being able to add text to her photos more than she enjoyed adding in Kittie friends.

My girls enjoyed playing around with the app but I’ve got a couple of suggestions that (I think) could really enhance the experience. The first is to add the ability to resize the Kittie friends and your flare. Right now you add them to your picture and then you can move them around but there’s no way to resize. The second is to add in a way to get back to the start menu after you finish a picture. I found no way to do this other than closing the app and restarting it again. Finally, it’s a minor thing, but on the start page you tap an “X” to begin the app. It may just be me but I always associate an “X” with finishing/closing something so it took me a minute to figure out that this time it meant a beginning.

One last thing that my girls didn’t pick up on – you can share you finished photo on the Gypsy Kittie Facebook page or upload it directly to your own page. My final thoughts, my girls enjoyed the app and didn’t have anything bad to say about it. So take my suggestions as those of an adult using an app meant for the younger crowd and since this is only the first version of the app I’d be shocked if there weren’t some updates in the future.

WebMD Baby was released earlier this month and it is awesome! Seriously one of the best “baby” apps I’ve seen to date

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
