Holiday Bells

December 3, 2010

I enjoy the sound of bells at Christmas time. Except when they’re in the hands of a little brother who’s trying to annoy a big sister. That I do not enjoy. But jingle bells, handbells, Salvation Army bells, those all make me happy. I only own one bell but the app Holiday Bells gives me access to all the bells I could wish for. Or rather all the bells I would want my children to have access to. There are three different types of bells. Jingle Bells, a single handbell and a handbell set. By tapping a button you can turn your iPhone into one of those festive instruments.

When you are in jingle bell mode you’ll see a set on the screen and you can make them ring by shaking your iPhone. In the right hands it could sound like Santa’s sleigh is right there in your house. If you choose to work the handbell it appears on your screen and again, shake the phone to ring the bell. With the handbell you can change the note it plays. Finally there is the handbell set. These handbells are arranged on the screen and you may tap them to hear their different notes. You can also select a song to play. When you do this a snowflake appears next to the bell that you need to tap. Follow the snowflakes and create a song. My kids love turning the bells into music.

We’re having a great time with Holiday Bells. It’s an inexpensive way to add some pleasant noise to your holiday festivities.

Holiday Bells is a universal app, it was developed for your iPhone and iPad. We’ve been trying it out on my iPhone.

One Comment about "Holiday Bells"

I bought this app and really enjoyed it. So much so I was inspired to make a companion app of my own.

My young son could not really “play” the songs and said to me “It would be easier if you just shook the phone and the song came out!”

I’ve have a family of four and our twist is that we wanted to all play together. We really wanted to play “In Dulci Jublio” and none of us have much talent (though we do have rhythm!)

Ring in the holidays with an app that puts a real handbell choir in the palm of your hand. We give you the notes, you bring the rhythm. Pick a song, choose your part and tap (or swing) to ring in the holiday season in style.

Have more fun with your friends! Complete arrangements of eight classic carols in full four part harmony are included for standard SATB (sporano, alto, tenor and bass) performances.

Swing mode has been specially developed to simulate the wrist movement of real handbell ringing and with a little practice you’ll look and sound like a Lord of the Ring.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
