There’s been some press lately about how many moms are using iPhones. It makes me laugh when the commentary after the articles sounds so surprised. Did they think we were all still hauling around shoebox sized cell phones? Probably think we’ve got rotary dialers at home too. Well they’re wrong and moms are definitely an iPhone force to be reckoned with.

Here at the iPhone Mom’s house we’ve been talking about what Apple could do to make the iPhone (and iPod Touch) more “Mom Friendly”. They’re already great devices for keeping our kids entertained and even educated. There are some great apps for tracking our pregnancies, babies, bills and shopping, but what else would you like to see? Any apps you’ve been looking for but so far been unable to find? Those of you lucky ducks with the 3GS – do you find yourself using the video feature to record your kids at soccer, dance, etc.? How’s it working and was it worth the upgrade? Anyone thinking about asking Santa to bring the family an iPod Touch so you can reclaim your iPhone from your kiddos? The biggest thing that I would like to see is a children’s category in the App Store. That and the iPhone moving to Verizon so my coverage improves. Is it too much to ask that I be able to make a call or send a text from inside Costco? How about you?? Pretend I’m a big wig at Apple and leave a comment letting me know what mom-inspired improvements you’d like to see.

*I apologize if my tone at the beginning of this post came off a bit snarky. I’m very thankful for all the press and all my readers, new and old! When I mentioned “laughing at commentary” I was referring to some rather mean-spirited comments about moms having iPhones that I’ve read after some of the articles on other websites. Figure it’s better to laugh than take offense, but I hope that I haven’t offended any of you with my laughter.

iphone mom, i hope you just don’t laugh about the press articles but also hope you are thankful for the free advertisement. I am single father and perhaps shouldnt be hanging around here but when i read the article on TechCrunch i felt instantly identified with how the market research that have been made about “iphone moms” describe them, I said God i can’t believe i do the same things they are doing, i keep my life and my schedule organized by using Google Calendar synced over the air with my iphone, i do the supermarket shopping and never forget anything thanks to the shopping list app, i give my iphone to my son for both entertaiment and educational purposes, i checked healthy recipes to have an idea of what i’m preparing for lunch, etc, etc…….. I already bookmarked your website to my homescreen sure that i will enjoy it and read it everyday while having breakfast after i’ve came back home from dropping my son at school.

I echo your desire for a children’s app category. Another request I have is for Apple to sync the phone and maps with the web pages accessed on the phone. With my Blackberry, it was much easier to google, click, and either map or dial. There are only a handful of times that I have been able to do that with the iPhone.

I love my IPhone and was a 1st gen user who paid full price…..I was recently gifted a 3GS version from my brother who I assisted in selling his home for no fee. I use my video feature ALL THE TIME. As a Realtor I use it to do property videos on the fly and also of my son doing something funny I want other people to see (and now I can text it too!) The great thing about having my new phone is that now my son uses my old phone to use as his own. So rather than buy a touch just buy a new phone for you and let them use your old one for their stuff. Its better than an IPod touch because it has a speaker. The one thing Apple could do is advertise a bit better on how awesome this phone is to entertain your toddler or children and provide a great phone cover for protection against falls (like that ever happens :) )

The iPod Touch needs a camera. THAT would make MY life easier. The kids like playing with my iPhone, and part of what they like doing is taking silly pictures with it. If the iPod Touch came with a camera, I would get them that and then I can finally have my phone back!!!! LOL!

…and now maybe the link on my name will work :( (apparently it remembered a typo I made the last time I left a comment)

I would love to hav an aps organizer, I try to categorize applications in sets of my stuff & games, educational, etc but as soon as I get more applications this is another master task to sort things out as the new aps simply go into the empty slots. Otherwise I love the iPhone & so does my teen daughter!

I agree with Jennifer and Barbara! A decent camera and an apps organizer are essential! I need a good zoom for my pictures. Most importantly I want a way to keep my kids apps separate from mine. Some tabs at the bottom or extra buttons on the home screen to access certain categories of apps would be great! Let’s hope apple is smart enough to listen to their growing iPhone mom fan base!

I have the mod for a 5 row app page but that doesn’t do it! I need more! Plus there are apps that come with the phone that I want to hide if I download a better one. They just take up room! I don’t use the stock market app! I agree on tabs, a children’s catagory, and organization. I’m a busy Girl Scout leader and Mommy of 2 plus I have a cake business! I’m on t-mobile and things are a bit slow. I also want to be able to make different picture albums instead of just camera roll. My list is getting HUGE! I could go on and on. And more free apps!
