iShotgun Pro

I live in a state full of hunters. Deer, elk, duck – they all have their season here. We at the iPhone Mom’s house are not hunters. We’re more like gatherers in that we go to the grocery store and gather our food off the shelves. I like it that way and as someone who’s never handled a firearm (and never intends to) I didn’t think I could review a shooting app fairly. So I enlisted my husbands help. He’s not into guns either however, thanks to our xBox 360 he is what I would consider an expert when it comes to firing a virtual weapon. Which qualified him in my book to be my evaluator of iShotgun Pro.
He started by adjusting the app’s settings: clay pigeon launch mode to auto, easy difficulty level selected and tap to shoot turned on. When he started the first level the clay pigeons launched across the screen and he tapped on them. The shotgun fired and if he tapped in the right spot the pigeon exploded. After a few rounds the pigeons come faster along with other things to shoot. Next he tried the app with the “tap to shoot” turned off. Here you tilt the iPhone side to side to aim and then tap a fire button. He thought this was a difficult mode that would be hard for younger kids to play. His biggest issue with the game was the shake to reload feature. When you need to reload your shotgun you shake your iPhone. This will cause everything that you’re shooting at to disappear off the screen. He found this frustrating. If you play with the clay pigeon launch mode set to automatic you either say “pull” into your phone’s microphone or tap the pull button. This will launch the pigeons across your screen. Different pigeons are worth different points and some take away points if you hit them so watch out.
As I mentioned before we’re not a big gun lovin’ family, so it’s probably not a surprise that this wasn’t my husband’s favorite app. He told me that it was pretty well done and is a decent game, but it feels more like a $.99 app.
