Itsy Bitsy Spider – by Duck Duck Moose

I cannot say enough good things about the apps that Duck Duck Moose puts out. I’ve got Wheels on the Bus and Old MacDonald on my phone and they are wonderful. Now they’ve come out with a new one, Itsy Bitsy Spider. The concept is the same: take a well known song and turn it into a colorful, clever interactive app. When your child taps the screen funny things will happen. With Itsy Bitsy Spider your child needs to tap the spider to make the song play. Tap once, the spider goes up the spout. Tap him again and the rain will wash the spider out, and so on. On each screen there are plenty of other things to tap and explore. Sometimes it felt like there was almost too much to interact with, but that might be because this app plays out on only two screens. It might also be because I’m a tired mom. I doubt that kids are going to complain because there are too many things to tap in an iPhone app. Quite the opposite I’m sure.

The developers are trying something new with this app and have added some educational features. There’s a fly that buzzes around during the song. If you tap on him you’ll hear information about what’s on the screen. You’ll learn about banana slugs, rainbows and spider legs, just to name a few things. There are also things to count throughout the app.

Like Wheels on the Bus and Old MacDonald your child can record themselves singing the song and then listen to their personal version when they play with the app. This is consistently my kids favorite feature.

I enjoyed Itsy Bitsy Spider, it’s a terrific interactive app. My favorite Duck Duck Moose app is still Old MacDonald but this one is fantastically well done too.

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
