Kid Cart

March 31, 2011

Kid Cart lets you create shopping lists just for your children. Creating a list is simple, all you’ll need to do is look at a list of pictures and then tap a button to add a quantity for that item. Items are broken down into categories including vegetables, grains, baking and household, just to name a few. If you’re unable to find something that you’re looking for you’ll be able to add custom items to your child’s list. Completed lists can be saved for reuse later on. You can switch between English, French and Spanish for your lists.

Once a shopping list has been created it appears as a list of items. As you place things in your shopping cart your child can mark them off his Kid Cart list. When everything on the list has been marked off he’ll receive a friendly “Congratulations” from the Kid Cart shopping cart.

I like the app’s concept but I have a suggestion for how the items are handled on the lists. Right now you tap on a small arrow next to an item to add it to the shopping list. When your child is marking items off the list they’ll need to tap on a shopping list icon to turn it into a checkmark. I’d like to have the ability to tap on the item’s name and picture as well. Perhaps even get rid of the arrows and shopping list icon all together. It would be a larger area to tap and it’s where my fingers went automatically. My last suggestion is to change the shopping cart character so he’s not quite as cartoony. But that’s just a personal preference.

I think that Kid Cart is a nice way to get children involved in the grocery shopping experience. Instead of giving children an app for entertainment you can include them and with some parental involvement this becomes an app that deals with counting, nutrition and more.

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
