Kids *Books* Store

The Kid’s *Books* Store is a children’s bookstore app for your iPad. What makes this one a little bit different is the fact that in addition to letting you enjoy purchased stories you can also create your own books. You’ll find a variety of books available for download in the bookstore and each comes with a sample that will download a small portion of the story. I tried out the story Meet Einstein and it was a fun take on Albert Einstein and science. I found the illustrations to be adorable. Books can be enjoyed with the included narrated version or readers can record themselves reading the story. This is a nice touch. Navigation through the stories is done by tapping on a forward and back arrow. It’s a simple and effective process but it would also be nice to see an auto play option included.

In addition to the books that are available from the bookstore you can also take photographs and create your own story. The app guides you though the process of selecting your pictures and resizing them appropriately for the pages. This section also offers tips on taking photographs of pages from actual picture books. That would be a creative way to turn your favorite story into a digital storybook. Once you have the images done the book is saved to your bookshelf. The next time you open it up you can record the narration.

Kid’s *Books* Store is extremely easy to use, so much so that if you have young children you’ll probably want to disable in-app purchases. The button to get to the bookstore isn’t right in your face but with the way young children like to tap on the screen it will most likely be found. Better to go through the extra steps when you do want to make a purchase then to have unexpected charges.
