Let’s Bead Friends

Let’s Bead Friends is a great app for girls. Both my eight year old and my eleven year old enjoy this one. It allows you to

create friendship bracelets and then email them to friends or add them to Facebook. To create a bracelet you select a bead (there are five shapes to choose from), then a color and pattern. When you have created the perfect bead you use the plus sign to add it to a piece of string. Then you’ll need to create and add your next bead and so on. When you’ve filled the string with beads you can choose one of four charms to add on the end. A completed bracelet will sparkle for a moment and then be added to your Jewelry Box. The Jewelry Box is where you can view your saved bracelets. It was nice to discover that if you exit the app while you are making a bracelet you’re given the option of completing it the next time you open the app.

We’ve been enjoying Let’s Bead Friends at our house and I like the patterning skills it teaches. I have just a couple of suggestions for what is an already great app. The first would be to allow you to drag your finished bead onto the string. I kept forgetting to use the plus sign to put my beads on the string and I kept trying to move them with my finger. My next suggestion would be to add a way to save beads that have been created, at least for the bracelet you’re currently working on. When I was making a bracelet I’d create a bead and then want to use it again later on. It’s not a big deal to recreate it but it would be nice to have it already there. Finally, I’d love to see even more bead shapes and patterns. Now keep in mind my girls haven’t complained about any of this so these are probably nit picky grown-up suggestions!

If you’re looking for a fun girly app for your iPhone this one definitely fits the bill!

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
