Wow! LetterSchool is a colorful handwriting app that is going to capture your child’s attention in an instant. The app uses fun, colorful animation to teach letters and numbers. In each section children will find several things to do. First they’ll see an object that begins with the letter and hear both the letter and object’s name. Next they can tap on the screen to watch the letter appear in an exciting way. Maybe a candy necklace will string out the letter, a fuzzy caterpillar will crawl along or a rocket ship will fly leaving a trail of stars outlining the letter. Whatever it is it will be captivating. The next thing to do is trace the letter. Children do this with their finger but the tracing line is anything but a simple line. Instead train tracks, light ropes and more appear when they trace. After the letter has been traced a train chugs along the tracks or the lights flash, something happens along the path they have left. Finally, children will write the letter all by themselves.
In LetterSchool’s settings parents can choose from three handwriting styles – D’Nealian, HWT and Zaner-Bloser. You can even choose a different style for each section. It’s also nice to see that not only are upper and lowercase letters both included in the app but a different object is used as an example of each one.
LetterSchool is one of the most engaging handwriting apps I have seen to date. I love all of the exciting animations and my children have been captivated.
