Little Blue Penguin tells the story of a sweet stuffed penguin with emotions so big they make him shine with different colors. He has adventures finding a new home and then going to the zoo. The story is narrated by a little girl who does a fantastic job. You can tap on the screen to make things happen as you go through the different screens. The story’s text is available in English, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. The story can be read aloud in those languages also. At the very is a series of questions designed to test the reader’s comprehension.

I liked the story of the Little Blue Penguin but at times the page turning feature felt a little off. Sometimes I swiped my finger to turn the page manually and other times I’d wait for the app to do it. It seemed a smoother transition when I let the app do the turning but it felt like too long of a wait for that to happen. I’m probably being too picky. Also, when I was going through the questions at the end the app wouldn’t automatically advance to the next one. I’m not sure if I was missing something but I kept having to “turn the page” to move on. I think some automation here would be a nice feature. Lastly, I think larger text on the question section would be also be helpful. All relatively minor issues that may bother no one but myself – it’s a cute story overall!

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
