Little Red

Little Red is a storybook app that tells the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. It is true to the original tale and provides an excellent example of why you should always listen to your mother and watch out for wolves. There’s no dancing around the consequences of Red’s actions in this version. Both Grandma and Red are eaten by that evil wolf. Thankfully, they are also rescued by the brave woodcutter.

I found the illustrations in Little Red to be completely delightful. The text for the story is shown in varying font sizes and this might bother some people but I love the look and thought it added to the charm of the story. You have the choice of either reading the book to yourself or listening to a read aloud version. Each page has some simple animations to watch for and there are sound effects to go along with the story. In addition to the story, the app also features a coloring book. Each illustration from the app is shown in the coloring book in black and white. You can choose from five different colors and use your finger to color in the picture. It’s a simple coloring book but it gives you a chance to color the story as you envision it.

On a side note, I think the makers of Little Red have one of the most clever and charming company names I’ve heard so far -  Appily Ever After Publishing. Wonderful!

*Justine & Simone from Appily Ever After tell me that you can mix the colors in the coloring book. Color with red and then color over the red with blue to get purple. So instead of only have four colors as I originally thought, you can actually create eight.

    Dear Mom

What about that Lola’s Flag game you advertise – is it any good? Is it for kids who can read or for older? Looks nice and would be nice to have some comments about it. All the best, Mary

WebMD Baby was released earlier this month and it is awesome! Seriously one of the best “baby” apps I’ve seen to date

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
