Today, three Math apps that are all from developer Matt Rayner.
Maths Brain! - Maths Brain! is an app for improving your mental math ability. The app lets you choose whether you’d like to work with addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Questions are available in either practice or test mode and you can select from three difficulty levels. The app is straight forward and provides exactly what it says it will. I like the contrasting colors used in the app’s design. Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later. This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad. Price: $.99 ~ See Maths Brain in the App Store
Tick Tock – Tell the Time – Tick Tock – Tell the Time features a happy clock face and practice for children who are learning to tell time. The app works in hours, halves, quarters and more. Children are shown a time and asked to move the clock hands to reflect that time. To move the hands they tap plus and minus buttons for the hours and minutes. This was the only thing that hung me up on the app. I kept reaching to adjust the clock hands with my fingers like I would in real life. Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later. Price: $.99 ~ See Tick Tock in the App Store
I Say, You Say – Number Bonds - I Say, You Say is a simple addition game and a different way of looking at the relationship between numbers. The app talks in terms of “Number Bonds” and that’s not a term I’d heard of before. What your child needs to do is determine the number needed to add (bond) to a given number to make a total. You select the total your child will practice to – 10, 20, 50, 100 or 100 in 10s. The app then asks something like: “I say 3 you say?”. If you were practicing to 10 then your child would tap 7. If you were practicing to 20 they would tap 17 and so on. I thought it was good practice and gave me a stretch to think about addition in a way other than looking at it written out in a problem. Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad.Price: $.99 ~ See I Say, You Say in the App Store
Disclosure: I received free copies of the apps for review purposes.
