ME911 describes itself as a “family safety and security app for on-the-go moms and dads”. The app works as a safe, central storage location for several different types of information. First there is the medical and emergency information. You can create emergency profiles for family members and record health, medication and allergy information. A vaccination tracker is included along with a place to store current insurance details. You may also enter in emergency contacts for each member in your profile. To use the app you’ll need to create an account at www.ME911.com. After you’ve done this the information you enter into the app will show up online in your account. This way, if you don’t have access to the app you will still be able to get at the information via the website.
In addition to storing medical and emergency information ME911 also works as a “Virtual Locker”. Each member’s profile has a unique “locker” where they can store photos of important documents like their passport, driver’s license, fingerprints, wills and more. Again, the information entered with the app shows up in your account online. According to the ME911 website FAQs they use 128-bit data encryption for storing and transmitting this sensitive information. They also use an authentication process like that of online banking. From reading through the website material it sounds to me like they take their user’s privacy very seriously.
I’ve seen emergency response apps before but this is the first one I’ve seen that expands into storing other types of information. Having that virtual locker could come in handy, especially if you find yourself in an emergency and you needed access to some of that important paperwork while you’re on the go. It didn’t take me too long to fill out the basic medical information and it will go faster if I can get online and type there. The ME911 app is free and if you download before March 31st you’ll be get a free trial of the online account services until April 30th. After that you’ll have the option to purchase the annual service for $29.95. If you’d like to have a trial run with this safety and security app then now is a good time to do it.
