MeasureAll is a utility app that will turn your iPhone/iPod Touch into a ruler. To measure something all you do it set your iPhone down on a surface, standing it up so the home button is towards the bottom of the phone.  Now tap the screen. On the bottom of the screen is a slide ruler. Slide this towards the beginning of the point that you’d like to measure. Without lifting up your iPhone lay it down on it’s side and move the slide ruler again. Now bring your iPhone back up to a standing up position, again without lifting it up. Move the slide ruler and repeat this process over until you’ve come to the end of whatever you are measuring. As you’re doing this you’ll see a measurement reading on the screen and the number will be changing. When you’re all done you can either save the measurement or cancel it out. If you choose to save you’ll be able to give it a name and view it later. In the “Preferences” section of MeasureAll you can set how you’d like things measured, in inches, centimeters or feet. You can also turn on a camera feature. This will allow you to take a picture of what you’re measuring. The picture then shows up as a thumbnail along with your saved measurements.

The app suggests that you take off your iPhone’s cover before using MeasureAll. I left mine on and it worked just fine but wasn’t as accurate as it could be.  But even though my hands aren’t the steadiest I was still able to get fairly accurate measurements with my iPhone. I wouldn’t use these measurements in a situation where accuracy was key but the app is great for when I’m out and about without my tape measure.

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
