The spirit of Mr. Rogers lives on in this iPhone app from PBS Kids. Mr. Rogers’ Make a Journal for Preschoolers gives children a place to express their feelings and share them with mom and dad. The app allows them to make a journal about five different themes: Pretending, Playtime, Books, At School and When I Get Mad.  After they choose a theme your child is walked through the journal. There is the beginning of a sentence on a page and they get to choose an illustration that best expresses their feelings about it. They do this on three pages. On the last page they have a chance to draw whatever they want about the theme. Each journal page is read by Daniel Striped Tiger from the Neighborhood of Make Believe. When the journal is finished it’s stored in a “library” and can be reread any time. The app runs smoothly and is easy for a preschooler to use on their own. If you want a peek inside your child’s head then this app is worth a try. I like the way it gives children an outlet to express themselves. I think it’s definitely suited for preschoolers. Older kids would probably want a way to write their own words.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
