My Daily Journal – The Personalized Journal/Diary is a spiffy way to write down your thoughts or notes on your iDevice. The app acts like a regular journal but with some great custom appy features. You can change the journal’s “paper” and even use one of your own photos to create a watermark image as the background for your pages. There are currently seven cover colors to select from and then there are the fonts. Yes, you’ll find plenty of classic fonts like Times New Roman, Arial and Papyrus but you’ll also find oodles of custom fonts. There’s even one called Eliza Jane that dots your i’s and j’s with hearts. Text size and color can also be changed to further spice things up.
First things first, My Daily Journal comes with the option to turn on password protection. If you set up a password then you will have to enter it every time you exit and then reenter the app. When you add in a journal entry it’s as simple as typing on the onscreen keyboard. As you type your entry is automatically saved, I love autosave. My Daily Journal will automatically date and time stamp your entry but you can change the date and time to suit your needs. Entries can be tagged into categories and searched by category, key word or date. Speaking of dates, you can view your journal entries in a calendar format. If you feel like sharing your thoughts then My Daily Journal supports sharing individual entries by email or Facebook or exporting the entire journal as a PDF file by email. Finally, the app has a backup and restore feature done through DropBox.
Becoming better at keeping a journal is one of my ever revolving resolutions. There’s really no excuse not to jot things down when I’ve got an app right on my phone. And when I can do it in such a cute way, well so much the better! I can even create a journal with handwriting that looks like it was done in sixth grade, how’s that for technology!
