My First Phone

March 8, 2011

My First Phone turns your iPhone into a toy phone and it’s one of my favorite types of toddler apps. Cute animated graphics, nothing too complicated, plenty of buttons to tap, and fun sounds to hear. It has three different key pads – phone, animals and transportation. The phone key pad has colorful numbered buttons and when your child taps on them they’ll hear realistic key pad sounds. The pound symbol will cue up a ringtone as if they’re really making a call.

The animal key pad has twelve buttons, each with an animal’s face. If your child taps on a button they’ll hear the sound that animal makes. Animals include a cat, rabbit, elephant, bear, bee, owl and more. The faces are slightly animated and their eyes will blink or tails might wag as they sit on the screen. The transportation buttons show vehicles. There’s a motorcycle, bike, roller skates, skateboard, train, boat, etc. These are also animated so your child will have something simple to watch on the screen. When they tap the buttons they’ll hear the sound associated with that vehicle.

I found My First Phone’s simplicity appealing and just right for my twenty month old. No matter where she tapped on the screen she was just about guaranteed to get a sound. As she gets older she’ll be able to figure out where to tap to get specific sounds. I appreciated that all of the sounds were realistic, especially the phone. If you’ve got a child like mine who wants to “talk” on your phone then this is a fun app for pretend play.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
