Has Brian Tong been a fly on the wall in my house? Because this video sure is timely. We’ve got a little boy with a birthday coming up. He’s been reminding us for awhile that his sisters both have an iPod and a Nintendo DS and he has neither. Subtlety is not really a strong point at our house. We’ve decided to make it one big gift this year but we can’t decide which wish to fulfill. Nintendo DSi, regular DS, Nano, iPod Touch? Which brings me around to this video from Brian Tong where he pits the Nintendo DSi vs. the iPod Touch. Enjoy and please leave a comment to help – price difference aside which electronic device would you choose?

iPod Touch! Hands down!
More variety of games, cheaper, just as entertaining and often more so.
This is painful for a Nintendo fanboy to say.

LOL! I had the same dilemma about a month ago. We had held our breath that the new iPod Touch would come with a camera because one of the things my daughter loved about playing with her friend’s DSi was the camera – but alas – no camera. So we’re still holding out. I would have bought the iPod Touch in an instant if it they had added the camera – but until they do, I’ll wait…

You should get iPod touch cause there are many apps on it, and many of them are free, and cheaper than games you can buy from DSi.

It’s definitely something to think about. My husband and I and the kids all have DS’s and no one really plays with them. Both hubby and I have iPhones. I suspect we will be buying the kids iPod touches within the next 18 months or so. Hubby has Civilization Revolution on his DS, it cost $30, he has the same game for his iPhone, it cost $4.99, he says there is no discernible difference. Best thing about a Touch as far as I can see is on road trip they have all their entertainment all in one device, movies, music and games, and no arguing about which movie to watch. Plus it’s cheaper to buy even two 64GB Touches rather than have a DVD system installed in the car.

So I went ahead and got the DSi – but not without much back and forth. I figure this way he’s not left out from his sisters and we can use the music feature like he would an iPod. Now we’re leaning towards getting a refurbished Touch for the kids to share for Christmas. Thanks for all your advice!

I just got my first iphone yesterday and I’m already in a competition with my 6 year old twins about who gets to play on it most. This competition led me here to see what would be better an iTouch or Nintendo DS for them to use. Thanks for the link.
Since the two systems ranked so close and my children have iphone envy, I’m thinking that Santa might be shopping at the Apple store for Christmas this year.

I have 6 year old twins and am deciding which to get them for christmas??
my son loves playing games on my iphone and my daughter loves the music… i had bought dsi’s but am thinking of returning them for itouches – while the initial cost is more, i think in the long run w/ the games it will be the same… i am concerned though w/ how responsible they will be w/ an itouch?? thoughts??

Hmmmm – it’s a tough one. I haven’t regretted that we bought my son the DSi but he enjoys video games. He uses my old iPhone but not as much as my girls do. If I was debating about my girls I’d probably go with the iPod Touch just because they’re more into listening to music and watching movies than he is. The iPod Touch is good for all around entertainment and you can purchase more games for less. My son is six and he handles the old iPhone just fine, it took a little bit of training but now I don’t worry about him with it at all.
