One Snowy Day was written and illustrated by Tammi Salzano and Hannah Wood, the team behind One Rainy Day. Both stories were brought to the App Store by mytales digital. Where One Rainy Day talks about colors One Snowy Day works numbers into it’s story. This is the tale of Penguin as he goes out and about One Snowy Day. Before he goes outside he puts on one wooly hat and two fuzzy mittens. Outside he meets three friends and they through eight snowballs. The numbers continue on this way throughout Penguin’s day.
One Snowy Day’s illustrations are very appealing and they manage to show the cold in a warm and friendly way. The illustrations can be tapped to reveal hidden sound effects. These are hidden in both the narrated and read alone versions of the story. In addition to reading the story your child can color with simple coloring pages taken from the illustrations. There are also different activities for each number from one to ten. In this section your child will get to do things like put one hat on Penguin or drag seven snow angels over to the snow.
I like One Snowy Day as a story for older toddlers. The concept and story are simple but they have been captured in an engaging way. This is an original story that teaches something in a way that works with it’s target audience. I was a fan of One Rainy Day and I’m a fan of a Snowy one too.
