Paint for Kids

December 22, 2010

Paint for Kids is a simple, but colorful, painting app for young children. It’s an iPad only app and the screen is a great size for little fingers to paint on. The App Store description says it’s been developed for toddlers twelve months and up and I think that’s probably just about right. I’m going to try it out with my eighteen month old once she’s done with her recent bout of teething. The drool on the screen wasn’t pretty the last time we tried an app together. Taking the iPad away from her was even uglier.

Paint for Kids is very easy to use. Children are given a white textured screen that looks like slightly crumpled paper. On the side of the screen they have a row of colors, designed to look like blobs of paint. There are eight bright colors plus white. First they will tap on a color, next they will tap on the screen and finger paint a picture.

Parents can tap an “i” to bring up a few additional options. They can delete the picture, save it to the camera roll or turn the app’s sound on or off. Two features that I’d love to see added would be the ability to change paint “stroke” sizes and an undo button. Toddlers might not use those features but they could come in handy for preschoolers. As the mom of a toddler I appreciate the simplicity of Paint for Kids. My little one will be delighted to touch the colors and then watch as they appear on the screen.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
