I was asked to take a look at this app, Parking Ticket Pundit – NYC. I live very, very far away from New York City. My city is small in comparison but parking downtown stresses me out anyway. I would rather find a parking garage and walk several blocks than navigate one way streets looking for an open parking meter. I’m not sure how I’d handle parking in New York City. I think the city streets would probably swallow me whole.
The idea behind this app is to use it as a tool to either beat or reduce a parking ticket you were given in New York City. Since I’m not a NYC parking ticket holder I wasn’t able to completely test out the app. But I did look it over and read through the information it presented. When I read through the App Store description I was skeptical about how legit this app was going to be. But the information it presents is straightforward enough. It tells you what to look for on your parking ticket that could help you get it dismissed. That’s things like incorrect make or model of your vehicle or the wrong time of ticket issuance. The app describes what should appear on the ticket and what type of discrepancies might work in your favor. It also gives you instructions on how to receive a one time reduction of your fine when you pay it online. There is a section that describes NYC parking laws and an official guide that explains violation codes. This guide tells you what your possible defenses against the ticket might be and what type of evidence you need to back up your claim. I checked out the website that that the app referenced and it was a legitimate New York City government publication. Finally, the app will help you write a letter requesting dismissal of your ticket and you can request a professional review of your case from a parking ticket appeals judge.
I thought that there was some useful information in Parking Ticket Pundit, things it would be helpful to know if you were new to New York City and needed to learn how and where you could park. Personally, if I knew that I was in the wrong and deserved a ticket I wouldn’t fight it. I’d try to get the one time fee reduction and learn my lesson. But I don’t live in a city where parking tickets are a big deal. The app’s price is really high at $9.99. I’m sure that’s meant to cover the professional review but some users might never use that feature. If that’s the only reason for the high cost then I’d rather pay a dollar or two for a “lite” version that didn’t give me the professional review but had the other information.
