Picturebook

Do you have a child who loves to write? Perhaps it’s you that enjoys telling original bedtime stories to your children. If you’re looking for a tool for creativity then take a look at Picturebook. This app allows you to create your own books and then share them with others. The app is free and comes with a small number of pictures to use when you create your book.

Making a book is easy. First you’ll make a title page and then you begin with your tale. You’ll find a page for your text next to a page for illustrations. You type on the one and add in pictures on the other. With your free download you’ll receive the “Everyday” picture set. This includes things like a bear, children, a star, a tree and the sun. Additional sets are available for purchase within the app. They range from $.99 to $2.99. You’ll find a pirate, school and Cinderella set. Even a ninja set of pictures. There is also a basic farm set that’s available for a free download. Picturebook comes with a “Toddler Lock” so you can turn prevent accidental in-app purchases, nice! When your story is complete you can share it with others. To do this you will enter in their email address and a personal message. Picturebook sends them the message and a link to the story. The catch is they’ll need to download the app to view the story.

Picturebook is a universal app so it’s been designed to work on all devices. I was unable to try it out on our iPad because my kids had thoroughly run it out of batteries again. So I tried it out on the iPhone and it worked well. If I had a choice I’d prefer the bigger screen but the experience on the iPhone is still very smooth. The only thing I wasn’t able to figure out was how to resize the pictures. I have a feeling it would have been very obvious on the iPad but I just couldn’t get my fingers to do whatever they needed on the smaller screen.

Overall, I found Picturebook to be a fun exercise in creativity. It also happens to have one of the most adorable demo videos I’ve seen. Enjoy!

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
