Play n’ Say Vehicles

Play n’ Say Vehicles is an unusual flashcard app. It has your child saying the names of the vehicles that they see on the iPhone screen. An animated vehicle comes across the screen and it’s name is said aloud. Then your child is told to “Say it”. The app uses speech recognition and can tell if the correct word has been spoken. In the basic mode your child won’t have to get the word right in order to move on to the next vehicle. This is for younger kiddos and also for use when there’s a lot of background noise. That would be all the time at my house. In the advanced mode your child will be prompted to try again if they say the wrong name of the vehicle, or if they say it too softly.

The illustrations in Play n’ Say are colorful and very engaging. The vehicles are about as cute as airplanes and trucks can get. The app comes with seventeen different vehicles to watch and “say”. There is so much that can be done with this concept that I’m betting this is the beginning of a whole series of Play n’ Say flashcard apps from Acoco Interactive.

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
